Amartya Bose

Hello and welcome! 

I am Visiting Lecturer in the Wilf Department of Politics at New York University.  I received my Ph.D. in Politics from NYU in 2026. My research uses empirical and formal methods to study political attitudes and behavior in the United States, with a focus on cross-cutting preferences, Asian-American politics, and direct democracy. 

My current work examines how, in an increasing polarized landscape, ballot initiatives provide information about the multidimensionality of voter preferences. I have also developed a novel approach to more accurately identify Indian-Americans in observational datasets which lack racial or ethnic classifiers, enabling more precise analysis of immigrant group preferences and political behavior. 

I will be on the job market in Fall 2026.

I hold an MPhil in Economics from the University of New South Wales and a B.A. in Economics and Political Science (Hons.) from the University of Southern California. Prior to my doctoral studies, I worked as a policy analyst at the Centre for Excellence in Population Ageing Research (UNSW), where I analyzed the effects of demographic change on housing markets in Australia.
